World Cup: All religions unite in prayer for India’s victory 2003/02/09 By CZ Bureau It was a heart-warming show of communal harmony when Muslims clerics, Christians and Sikhs joined Hindu priests on Sunday to pray for cricket-crazy India’s victory in the World Cup. "We have our religious differences and problems but when it comes to cricket we are one," said salesman Dipankar Ghosh, who watched the prayers in Calcutta. After reciting Islamic prayers for the Saurav Ganguly-led team for the World Cup, Muslim clerics along with Christians and turbaned Sikhs listened to saffron-clad Hindus praying around the holy fire. "All people, of all religions, are praying that the World Cup comes into Saurav Ganguly's hands," a Hindu priest said, as he held India’s flag. |
