Denying reports that he was trying to increase his pace, Indian speedster Irfan Pathan said he was not working on pace and merely speed in any case will not bring him wickets in the upcoming home series against Pakistan.

''A lot of people are saying a lot of things but I am not working on pace at the moment. In fact, I have not even started bowling after my injury. For now I am just working on fitness and strengthening the muscles in the injured area,'' Irfan told a news agency in New Delhi, adding, ''Andrew Leipus has been a big help and I am here because he has granted me two days' leave.''

The ICC Emerging Player of the Year 2004 also said that while he has not set specific targets for the Pakistan series, he would like to carry forward the good work started during India's visit across the border.

He also said that he did not attach extra value to any particular batsman. ''The wicket of any Pakistani batsman is special,'' he said.

Irfan rued missing the tsunami fund-raiser in Melbourne but hoped to make it in the Asian edition of the event. ''Missing the game due to injury hurt because it was for such a noble cause,'' he lamented.

He, however, expressed staunch belief that he would be fully fit before the commencement of the three-Test and five-one-day series against Inzamam's men next month.

The handsome youngster also felt that the team had a very good chance of retaining the series, under skipper Sourav Ganguly .

''Ganguly is the best captain I have played under and I am confident under him we can triumph this time also.''

India had won the Test series in Pakistan last year 2-1 and the ODI series 3-2.

Irfan said he would miss Laxmipathy Balaji , who was his pace-partner at the start of his international career, but maintained that one has to go on. He said he was very comfortable sharing the new ball with Zaheer Khan , Ashish Nehra and Ajit Agarkar .
