NEWS Australia in India>Steve, Ganguly still respect each other: Mark Waugh 02nd Dec 2005 22.20 IST By Agencies Despite his disparaging remarks about Sourav Ganguly in his autobiography, former Australian captain Stephen Rodger Waugh and the deposed India skipper still have mutual respect for each other, said Waugh's twin Mark Edward Waugh today. "I have not read the book. A few things that happened between the two rankled Steve. But Steve and Ganguly have mutual respect for each other," Mark Waugh told reporters in Mumbai. "He (Ganguly) was... Constantly bickering over the nature of pitches and trying to influence the groundsmen in India. To me, this wasn't too different from match-fixing, because captains who try this on are attempting to alter the conditions in collusion with a force they shouldn't be tampering with," Steve Waugh has written in his autobiography. Mark, who was in Mumbai on a promotional visit for 'Cartoon Network', said in Australia the pitch curators prepare pitches as per the soil characteristics of that particular venue and irrespective of Australia's opponents. "We are also lucky that we have fewer Test grounds unlike India. One of the reasons for India's poor record outside the country is because everywhere the batsmen come across slow and low bounce tracks. "If different types of pitches are prepared for the Indian batsmen to play on at different centres, it would be beneficial for them when they go outside," he said.
