Having impressed one and all with his match-winning efforts on the Pakistan tour, Yuvraj Singh says the vice-captain status bestowed on him midway through the one-day series had helped him become more responsible as a player.

"It gave me more responsibility and I wanted to play with responsibility and win matches for my country," Yuvraj, declared man of the series, told a TV channel in Karachi before leaving Pakistan.

Yuvraj, who scored 344 runs at an astounding average of 172, said he had played well in the last Test in Karachi and wanted to carry it forward in the one-dayers.

"I played well in the last Test match and I wanted to continue with my form in one dayers. We wanted to finish on a good note so the last one-day match was also important," he said.

On the winning combination he formed with Mahendra Dhoni that saw the team through in the two matches at Lahore and Karachi, he said, "I just wanted to stay there and play. I knew if Dhoni is around, then we can win."

Asked about the forthcoming England series, he said the team was high on confidence and looking forward to it.

"We have played well recently and given consistent performances. There is a small gap before we take on England which is good for the players," he said.
