Former Australian skipper Stephen Rodger Waugh today said that the Indian team was moving in the right direction with positive inflows and advised cricket fans to be patient before the changes in the team produced results.

"(Coach) Greg Chappell is having a positive impact on the team and it's time for change in Indian cricket," Waugh said on the sidelines of a luncheon hosted for visiting Australian Prime Minister John Howard in Mumbai.

"The spectators and the people should be a little patient with what's going on...(there's) a new captain, new members but I think they are going ahead in the right direction with the positive inflows," Waugh said.

The 40-year-old former batsman, whose team lost 1-2 to Sourav Ganguly-led India in the Test series here in 2001, is part of the contingent accompanying Howard comprising business leaders and educationists.

He, however, said the team should get a couple of victories away from home turf, which will boost their confidence.

"A couple of cheers away from home will strengthen them," Waugh, who scored 10,927 runs in 158 Tests and 7569 runs in 325 ODIs, maintained.
