Sourav Ganguly , on a comeback trail after being overlooked by national selectors, today said his stint in domestic matches prior to the start of the Ranji season would stand him in good stead.

"It's nice to play some domestic cricket and get runs and wickets as the actual season back home (Ranji) starts later," Ganguly told reporters after the Moin-ud-Dowla cricket match against Mumbai in Hyderabad.

Attributing the absence of big players from domestic circuit to the increasing number of international competitions, Ganguly said, "We cannot blame them (players).

"They have a busy season on hands. This tournament has attracted players like Wasim Jaffer , Gautam Gambhir and even I turned up to be in the thick of the game," Ganguly said while making it clear that he will stick his comments to the Moin-ud-Dowla tournament.

Ganguly, who enthralled the crowd throughout the three days with his lusty hitting and fine bowling, cracked a gritty 72 for Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in the second innings but could not prevent his side from suffering a 47-run defeat to Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the India's national cricket selection committee, Kiran More, today said that the doors were not closed on Ganguly.

"I reiterate that the doors are not closed on any player, including Sourav Ganguly," he told reporters after the practice match between India Seniors XI and India Juniors at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

Asked about the chances of Lakshmipathy Balaji making a comeback to the national side, More recalled what he had said in Bangalore - that Balaji needed to play in at least seven domestic matches before the committee has a look at him.
