Don't plan for just one player, Ponting tells teammates

Australian captain Ricky Thomas Ponting today cautioned his teammates not to make the mistake of putting up a plan for Sachin Tendulkar alone as India have a number of match winners now.

Ponting also reminded players that India were better prepared to handle the world champions as their coach Greg Chappell had a good idea about Australian strategies.

"Now they (India) have got Sachin back at the top of the order and it probably helps the team bounce up a little bit as well. He is a great player. But there are others also," Ponting said on the eve of the tri-series match against India in Kuala Lumpur.

"We got away with a good win the other night, I expect some improvement. The team should shape up as a good one," he said.

Australia defeated the West Indies by 78 runs after the Caribbeans suffered a middle order collapse, while chasing a competitive 279/9 on Tuesday.

It would be the first game that India will be playing against the three-time World Champions since Chappell, a former Australian captain, took over as coach.

"Greg will know about our game reasonably well. So he would have a fair bit of knowledge to pass to the Indians about us," Ponting said.

"There is no doubt he would have brought a fair bit to the Indian team and probably a fair bit of knowledge about some of us as well so it all adds up to a pretty good contest tomorrow."

Asked if India would be under pressure after losing last night's game, he said it is a fairly short series. "So it's a game they probably have to win tomorrow."
