Former West Indies pace bowler Courtney Andrew Walsh said today that Sachin Tendulkar was the best player he had played against in international cricket and thoroughly deserved the various honours bestowed upon him.

"His (Tendulkar's) record speaks for himself. I don't think anyone can question that, what he has done for the game. Whatever Sachin gets from the game, he deserves. It is tremendous for world cricket," Walsh, Jamaica's Ambassador at Large, said.

Walsh, who is in Mumbai as part of the four-member Jamaica Tourist Board delegation to promote his country ahead of the March-April World Cup in the West Indies, was reacting to a query at a media conference whether Tendulkar deserved to be named by 'Time' magazine as one of Asia's heroes in its forthcoming 60th anniversary issue.

Tendulkar has been named in a list that also contains Mahatma Gandhi, Jawarharlal Nehru, steel baron Lakshmi Mittal and Information Technology czar N K Narayan Murthy.

"I can only say that Sachin, if he were a West Indian, would probably have got the same fame. I can say that Brian Lara is the best player I have had in my team and Sachin is the best I have played against", he said.
