Exonerated of the doping charge, Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif on Tuesday said the verdict had given a fresh lease of life to his career and he was raring to make it to the national team at the earliest.

"I have been playing club cricket (to keep myself match fit). It is up to the selectors to decide when they want to call me up. I will start playing domestic cricket as soon as possible," a beaming Asif said in Karachi after an appellate tribunal overturned the one-year ban on the bowler.

The 23-year-old bowler, one of the most promising pacers to emerge for Pakistan in recent years with 30 wickets in six Tests, was banned for a year by a dope tribunal last month, ruling him out of World Cup in March-April.

But the appeal tribunal overturned the ban and gave him a clean chit, paving the way for his return to international cricket.

Asif said he had been spending sleepless nights ever since he was named as one of the dope offender’s along with fellow fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar but did not realise the enormity of the situation until he was banned.

"But I didn't give up hope and my mother and the rest of my family were a big source of strength for me. Some Pakistan Board members also helped me a lot." The swing bowler also said he was willing to undergo another test to prove his innocence further.

"I have no problems with giving another test because I have never used performance enhancing substances in my life and I still don't know what happened in the Champions Trophy," Asif said.
