NEWS Senior Aussies may have to postpone retirement: Langer12th Dec 2006 15.32 IST By Agencies Australian batsman Justin Lee Langer has said Damien Richard Martyn 's sudden exit may cause other senior players to put their retirement plans on hold to avoid the repetition of 1980's joint exodus which had hit the team hard. The Greg Chappell-Dennis Lillee-Rod Marsh retirement had highlighted the need to limit the damage when the senior players started to depart. "You've got to have a nice progression of players coming through. You don't want to see all the senior players going out at once," he was quoted as saying by 'The Age'. Langer said, after the retirement of 35-year-old Martyn he re-evaluated his plans and it should have been the same for all senior players. "If you'd asked me 12 months ago, I'd have thought, 'Yep - end of the Ashes, Sydney, that might be a good time to do it'. But now, when someone like Marto retires it brings into stark reality what the situation is," he said. Many of the current Australian players, including Langer, Shane Keith Warne , Glenn Donald McGrath , Matthew Lawrence Hayden , are on the verge of calling it a day.
