Harmison ruled out of Test series against India

England fast bowler Stephen Harmison has been ruled out of the remainder of this summer's Test series against India because he needs a hernia operation.
The Durham pacer was initially only sidelined for the opening Test at Lord's but his condition was deemed to require surgery.
The recovery period is between four to six weeks and since Harmison has retired from one-day international cricket his next significant action is likely to be the Test series in Sri Lanka in December.
His place in the 13-man squad for the match starting on Thursday at Lord's has gone to Hampshire seamer Chris Tremlett.
Young Leicestershire pacer Stuart Broad is tipped to replace Harmison in the starting X1.
Coach Peter Moores confirmed Harmison's setback today: "He's going to have the operation later today.
"Unfortunately for him the hernia has come back and now it's all about getting it done as quickly as possible," he said.
Harmison first sustained the injury during the final Test against West Indies at Chester-le-Street nearly a month ago but after tests England's medical staff agreed to let Harmison play on.
But he suffered a recurrence of the problem during Durham's championship match against Sussex at Hove last week and is now set to miss the remainder of England's summer for county and country. |
