Australian spinner Stuart MacGill may undergo a knee surgery, which is likely to rule him out for the four-Test series against India starting December 26.

MacGill's knee problem has already ruled him out of domestic cricket.

The 36-year-old, who is under fire after a lacklustre show in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, has reportedly consented for an operation to get rid of the problem permanently.

MacGill's decision is likely to enhance the chances of Brad Hogg's selection for the series.

The left-arm wrist spinner has been doing well in Australia's domestic competition.
