India today earned the dubious distinction of conceding highest number of extras in the history of Test cricket when it conceded 72 runs before lunch, in the third and final Test against Pakistan being played at M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.
They overtook the previous highest of 71 runs extras conceded by West Indies on their home turf against Pakistan in 1988.
Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik, who kept stumps in place of vice-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, sidelined from the match due to an injury, also registered his name in the record books by conceding the highest number of byes (31 runs) by an Indian keeper, in Pakistan's first innings.
However, the highest number of byes in Test cricket was conceded by English keeper Leg Aames, who let of 37 runs go past his gloves.
The 21-year-old Chennai keeper beat Budhi Kunderan's record, who had conceded 29 byes against England at Kanpur during 1964.
In Pakistan's first innings so far, India had conceded 26 runs from leg byes and 15 from no balls. |
