 Johnson, Haddin shun lucrative IPL contracts

Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Johnson and wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin have decided not to join the cash-rich Indian Premier League as they want to concentrate on their careers with the national team.
IPL's Australian agent Neil Maxwell said 14 or 15 players from Australia would appear in the eight-team Twenty20 tournament to be played in April-May this year.
"Two guys have decided not to go - Haddin and Johnson - they're going to focus on their international careers. I'm just waiting on one other, but apart from that everyone else is right.
"We're looking at about 14 or 15 (Australian signatures). I'm not in a position to read them out right now," Maxwell was quoted as saying in a report.
Maxwell said it will be raining cash on top players featuring in the tournament.
"The top players, for six weeks work, could be earning, dare I say it, USD 70,000 to 80,000 a week... quite comfortably I'd suggest for some of those top ones. It's in the realms of the English Premier League, which for a long time players have wanted to aspire to," he said.
Bidding for the players would be held in Mumbai on Wednesday.
"(The auction) will be an intranet thing, they'll all be in the room with eight hooked up to the intranet and there the players will be put up on screen, and then bang, you put your number in and go on to the next player," Maxwell said.
The report said it was believed that Australia's IPL contracted players included Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Adam Gilchrist, David Hussey, Jason Gillespie, Matthew Hayden, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath, Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Shane Warne and Cameron White. |
