Kaneria contemplating career in Pakistan team
24th Feb 2008 19:00 IST Agencies
Pakistan's Test spinner Danish Kaneria is contemplating his future with the national team after being continuously ignored for the one-dayers.
The leg-spinner is also waiting for a clearance from the PCB to play for Essex in the English County this season.
Sources close to the leg-spinner said Kaneria might seek an assurance from the Board for being able to fulfill his county commitment with Essex before making himself available for the coming home Test and one-day series against Australia.
Kaneria has repeatedly expressed his disappointment at being ignored in the one-day team despite his impressive Test record of 220 wickets in 51 matches.
"The Board also did not push for him to get a contract with the Indian Premier League and now they are also sitting on a decision on allowing players to play county cricket. So naturally he is worried," one source said.
Kaneria, only the second Hindu to play for Pakistan, is already facing a disciplinary proceeding from the Board for making comments on his demotion in the new central contracts to the players.
One source said the Kaneria's frustration grew specially after the Board said it would be announcing a new policy on allowing players to play county cricket in order to avoid fitness problems among the bowlers.
