Maverick Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar today joined the practice with Kolkata Knight Riders but looked very much rusty as the struggling side geared up for Thursday's Indian Premier League outing against Bangalore Royal Challengers.

Shoaib, who reached the city last night after the five-year ban slapped on him by the Pakistan Cricket Board was suspended for a month, bowled two overs as the Knight Riders played a practice match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The 'Rawalpindi Express was wildly cheered by a large number of fans as he alighted from the team bus at the Eden.

In the practice, he bowled wayward, sending down two wide balls and one no ball in the beginning as he tried to generate a fiery pace with a full run up.

However, the Pakistan speedster seemed out of steam at the end of the opening over and had to use an inhaler.

Visibly tired, he cut down on pace in the second over and bowled the last two balls with a shorter run up.

He didn't bowl any more, and spent his time far away at deep fine leg.
