Rain dashes Kolkata Knight Riders' semi-final hopes
22nd May 2008 23:01 IST Agencies
The Kolkata Knight Riders' feeble chance of making it to the semi-finals of the IPL came to an end as their match against the Delhi Daredevils was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to recurrent rains followed by wet conditions at the Ferozshah Kotla in New Delhi today.
Both teams received one point each.
The pitch curator and the other ground staff worked really hard to keep the pitch unaffected from the downpour and outfield dry today but weather gods had other plans. Heavy downpour in the evening spoiled the conditions.
Some play was expected with the ground staff toiling hard to remove water after it stopped raining. But, the conditions were too bad for a match with puddles of water everywhere and therefore, the two umpires decided to call it off.
Delhi Daredevils were placed fifth with 12 points before this wash out. Now they have 13 points and consequently replace Mumbai Indians from the fourth slot.
Kolkata Knight Riders are out of the semi-final contention. They had a bleak chance if they had won all their remaining games, including this one, and Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils lost rest of their matches.
Now, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings battle for the third and fourth place with Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab certain for the semi-finals. |
