Tait ready to come back sooner for Lee's sake

Having recovered from mental and physical exhaustion that forced him to quit cricket earlier this year, Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait says he is ready to make a sooner than expected comeback to ease the growing burden on fellow pacer Brett Lee.

Tait, who was targetting a return to active cricket next season, says he is ready to make himself available this year itself if the selectors called him urgently for Lee's sake.

"If they called me tomorrow and said, 'be ready in three weeks', I'd do it," Tait was quoted as saying by the 'Daily Telegraph'.

"I don't know what frame of mind the selectors are in. I know I can't waltz back into an Australian cap but I am keen to get back. I am definitely coming back to play. It is a matter of when," he added.

The 25-year-old shockingly quit the game in January citing physical and mental exhaustion but says he is back to being in a good frame of mind now after extensive training.

"I'm doing gym work five days a week and my body feels great. There's no problems," he insisted.

At the time he quit, Tait was seen as Lee's pace partner. Lee has had to bowl a majority of Australia's overs since then, as both Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Clark have been inconsistent at best.
