Hussey torn between twin loyalties

Caught in a twin loyalty dilemma, Michael Hussey said he would like to represent his native Western Australia in the inaugural Champions League but if required to don Chennai Super Kings jersey in the Twenty20 tournament, he would not have any problem either.
Incidentally, Hussey might be spared of the dilemma altogether with Australia's fixture in September-October making him a doubtful for the 10-day tournament.
In case he is allowed to play, Hussey would find himself in a tricky situation with both Western Australia and the Chennai Super Kings making it to the Champions League.
Though IPL Chairman Lalit Modi said that IPL franchisees would have the first pick of the players, Hussey said, "I'm a Western Australia boy, through and through, born and bred, so if I'm playing a competition I'd probably prefer to play for Western Australia."
"But if the rules state that I'm playing for Chennai, then I'm very happy to play for them as well," Hussey was quoted as saying by the 'Sydney Morning Herald'.
"My understanding was that I thought we had to play for Western Australia if this situation arose. That's all I knew, so to hear something different seems a bit strange to me but obviously if that's the rules, that's the rules," said the Australian. |
