 ICC meet to discuss Zimbabwe issue

The future of Zimbabwe cricket, the impact of Twenty20 cash bonanza and the ambitious World Test Championship will top the agenda for the ICC Executive meeting on July 2 in Dubai.
With recent surveys showing that Australian and English cricketers are more than willing to end their international careers for playing in cash-rich leagues like the Indian Premier League, a concerned ICC will examine the impact of these multi-million-dollar events.
But Zimbabwe remains a greater headache for the governing body. ICC has so far turned a blind eye to the situation there despite audit reports giving damning evidence of financial bungling in the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU).
In fact, the ICC was forced to move the executive board meeting from Lord's to Dubai only because of Zimbabwe. The British government refused to issue visas to ZCU representatives in protest of the Robert Mugabe regime in the African nation.
But ICC President-elect David Morgan said Zimbabwe's future will be top priority this time in the wake of Cricket South Africa snapping its ties with it.
"Cricket South Africa announced that they were scrapping bilateral contact with Zimbabwe Cricket. It has been decided to put Zimbabwe on the agenda of the executive board meeting of the ICC which takes place next Wednesday in Dubai," Morgan said at the launch of ICC World Twenty20 Championship at The Oval in London on Tuesday. |
