Twin unbeaten half centuries by openers Salman Butt and Nasir Jamshed today ensured a consolation win for Pakistan as they guided the hosts to a comprehensive ten-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their inconsequential last Super Four match of the Asia Cup at the National Stadium in Karachi.
The two left-handed batsmen stroked their way to 116 in only 19.4 overs after Bangladesh were bowled out for a paltry 115 runs in 38.2 overs, the lowest total of the tournament, after electing to bat.
It was a disappointing show from Bangladesh although both teams had nothing to gain as they are out of the final, which will be played between India and Sri Lanka in Karachi on Sunday.
Butt (56 not out) and Jamshed (52 not out) faced no difficulties at all in piling up their second consecutive fruitful stand of the tournament after they had set up Pakistan's win over India with some glorious strokeplay.
Jamshed was the first to reach his half century, his fourth ODI fifty, from only 52 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes It came in the 18th over when the hundred of the innings also came up.
Butt raced to his ninth career half century in the next over from 60 balls with nine fours.
