Maverick pacer Shoaib Akhtar was today left out of the training camp for a Twenty20 tournament in Toronto, Canada after he refused to pay the Rs seven million for disciplinary violations.

The camp will be held from July 21 at the military base of Kakul and Shoaib was not named in a shortlist of 24 players for the camp although he was included in the 30-member preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy just few days back.

The Chairman of the national selection committee Salahuddin Ahmed, however, said it was not the end of the road for Shoaib and he would be considered as soon as the Board gave clearance to the selectors.

A Board official said their legal advisors had advised them to collect the Rs seven million fine from Shoaib, as there was no order from the Lahore High court, saying he should only deposit the fine once his writ petition in the court was decided.

Shoaib had appealed against an 18-month disciplinary ban and the fine imposed on him in the High Court, which suspended his ban but said the fine was a matter between him and the Board.

"The Board feels he has to deposit the fine first to be eligible to play for Pakistan. The issue would be sorted out soon," a PCB official said.

It was a dramatic U-turn from the Board which just few days ago included Shoaib in the Champions Trophy preliminary squad.

"We will call him for the camp once the board gives us the clearance as we have no problems with him and want to see him back in action," Salahuddin Ahmed said.

Shoaib was sent a notice by the board to deposit the fine before being considered for selection for the Champions Trophy to which his lawyer said he would pay the fine when the court reaches a final verdict.

"His name was given in the Champions Trophy preliminary squad because of the deadlines set by the International Cricket Council but now there is time for the board to sort out his fine issue with Shoaib," the chief selector said. continued..
