With Ricky Ponting still recuperating from a wrist surgery, Michael Clarke was named skipper of Australia's fourteen-member cricket team for the one day series against Bangladesh.
The Australian selectors announced the squad for the three match series against Bangladesh in Darwin during August-September.
Michael Hussey has been appointed Clarke's deputy for the series.
Terming Ponting's unavailability as a disappointment, Australia's National Selection Panel Chairman Andrew Hilditch said, “While it is disappointing not to have Ricky Ponting available, we are confident continuing his recovery and missing this series will assure Ricky is ready for the demanding cricket schedule ahead for the Australian team.”
Matthew Hayden, who is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, has been included in the squad but his availability would depend on fitness.
“Hayden has been selected in this side subject to fitness. His progress has been monitored closely by our physiotherapist and doctor and his overall participation in the series will be determined as we get closer to the date,” Hilditch said.
However, Coach Tim Nielsen hopes the beefy opener will be available for the series.
“We are very hopeful of Matthew Hayden being able to rejoin the team and our medical staff will continue to monitor him over the next two weeks,” he said.
Squad: Michael Clarke (Capt.), Michael Hussey (Vice-Capt.), Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Brad Haddon, Matthew Hayden, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson, Cameron White. |
