After recognising cricket as its national sport, Canada is now seeking Indian expertise to develop the game in the country.

"Canada needs expertise of Indian coaches and Test players to help the country in achieving excellence in this game," Cricket Canada Chief Executive Officer Atul Ahuja said after hosting a reception in honour of cricket players participating in the first-day international tri-series being held in Toronto.

He said the BCCI should appreciate it that it was in the interest of cricket to invest in neutral country like Canada so that Cricket could be played in all seasons.

Ahuja said cricket was now an industry and no longer a game. Canada was facing huge shortage of Test level coaches that offer huge opportunities for retiring Test players and Canada could be looked upon to provide second opportunity.

He said West Indies is the only Test playing country that is participating in the first one-day international tri-series with teams including Canada and Bermuda.

Canada is holding its first one-day international tri-series this week with teams including the West Indies and Bermuda.

The matches are being played at King City near Toronto August 18-24, with the controversial Darrell Hair of Australia and Roger Dill of Bermuda standing as umpires.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has deputed Ranjan Madugalle to officiate as match referee.
