Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar lived up to their reputation of being the most unpredictable characters in world cricket. Afridi missed Pakistan's first two World Cup matches after being handed a four-match ODI ban for brandishing his bat at a spectator during the first ODI against South Africa in Centurion.
Akhtar was fined US $5000 by the Pakistan board for two breaches of the players' code of conduct: leaving a fitness and training camp without permission, and failing to appear before the disciplinary committee of the board.
And then Akhtar was involved in what was described as an "incident" with Mohammad Asif in Johannesburg, where a dressing room brawl resulted in the latter ending up with an injured leg, after being allegedly hit on the thigh by the former.
Akhtar was handed a 13-match ban and a fine of approximately US $57,000 for a number of breaches of discipline and placed on a two-year probation, during which any disciplinary breaches could result in a life ban. Last seen, he was enjoying himself in India.
