Sachin Tendulkar - still at the pinnacle of his career
12th Mar 2008 23:55 IST Manish Kumar
He has been written off more than dozen times by his detractors but Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has bounced back each time in the manner he knows best - scoring runs by letting his bat do all the talking.
And such is the greatness of the man that he even refuses to acknowledge that he is trying to prove his detractors his wrong. Tendulkar just says modestly that he is just doing his job, that is, guiding his team to victories.
His knocks in the last three matches of the just-concluded Tri-Series in Australia were more than enough to prove his critics wrong who said that the Batting Genius doesn’t fire in crunch games.
Tendulkar was the second-highest run-getter in the series amassing 399 runs from the 10 innings at an average of 44.33 and an impressive strike rate of 85.25 with a highest score of an unbeaten 117.
Earlier in the series, Tendulkar was in patchy form where he often lost his wicket to the new ball after getting a good start, but all that changed in the last league match of the tournament in Hobart when India played Sri Lanka in a must-win game to ensure its place in the finals.
Chasing a modest target of 180, India lost Robin Uthappa early to Lasith Malinga. It was then that Tendulkar decided to take charge of the proceedings and played some breathtaking shots in his attacking knock of 63 off 54 balls to ensure there would be no further hiccups.
