Indian Premier League - Where cricket meets entertainment
17th Apr 2008 23:00 IST Manish Kumar
Rajasthan Royals: Rajasthan Royals is the franchise that will represent the city of Jaipur in the Indian Premier League. The team will be led and coached by Shane Warne. There is no Icon Player for the team. It is the only IPL team to have a foreign captain and playing coach.
The Rajasthan Royals franchise is owned by Emerging Media group and the team's mascot is a lion named Moochu Singh.
Warne's captaincy will be tested to the hilt in spite of the valuable presence of Dimitry Mascarenhas because of the lack of good local players.
Unnecessarily stacked up in foreign talent, given only four players can take the field. Appears a bit too reliant on Graeme Smith and Yusuf Pathan for providing the big-hitting punch, while Munaf's presence makes the fielding appear shoddy.
The middle-order has good nudgers and pushers, busy players like Younis Khan who can keep the scoreboard ticking. Kamran Akmal will be expected to rise to the occasion.
Kohli, Pankaj and Jadeja offer an exciting mix. Initially, though, all eyes will be on Mohammad Kaif and Shane Watson.
The Squad: Shane Warne (Captain), Aditya Angle, Swapnil Asnodkar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Kaif, Kamran Akmal (Wicketkeeper), Sumit Khatri, Taruwar Kohli, Justin Langer, Dimitry Mascarenhas, Parag More, Morne Morkel, Pankaj Singh, Munaf Patel, Niraj Patel, Yusuf Pathan, Mahesh Rawat, Anup Revandkar, Dinesh Salunke, Jaydev Shah, Graeme Smith, Sohail Tanvir, Siddharth Trivedi, Shane Watson, Younis Khan, Darren Lehman. |
