The success of Sohail Tanvir

"He has to improve and start delivering in Test cricket. Only then can we consider him a world class bowler, but he has shown signs that he can do it," he added.
Akram also believes that Tanvir's exposure to Twenty20 cricket played at the grassroot level in Pakistan had helped him cope with the pressure of the IPL and develop good balls for the death overs.
"That is one advantage our players have -- the exposure of this type of instant cricket at home."
Salahuddin says Tanvir has a lot of talent but he is still nowhere near the class of Wasim Akram or Waqar Younis.
"They were great bowlers and to reach their stature he has to perform consistently well in all types of cricket and maintain his form and fitness," the chief selector said.
National selector Saleem Jaffer, a former left-arm Test pacer, also said he liked a lot of things about Tanvir and saw him as a potentially long-term bowler for Pakistan.
"But I will caution him to be very careful about his fitness and concentrate on cricket. He is young and he has pace, swing and a unique action which troubles batsmen. But he needs time to mature further," Jaffer said. |
