Jayawardene tired of tight finishes

His side has just edged out England by two runs to inch closer to a semifinal berth in the World Cup but Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene said, back-to-back heart-stoppers are getting on to his nerves.
Last week, Sri Lanka almost did it before losing their previous Super Eight match to South Africa by one wicket and on Wednesday, they revived their World Cup campaign with a slender two-run win in a nail-biting tie against England.
"I don't want tight finishes like this. We should have clinched it earlier," he said after the match at St. John’s in Antigua on Wednesday.
Wednesday's match saw England recovering from 133/6 to come within three runs of an improbable win before Dilhara Fernando castled Ravinder Bopara to seal the match with the final delivery of the day.
"It was a very close match today and it's not good for anyone's heart," he quipped, adding it was a good day of cricket from the crowd's point of view.
"We had them at 133/6 and thought we were just one ball away from exposing the tail. But Paul Nixon and Ravi Bopara batted really well and took it to the last few overs.
"The South Africa game was also too close for comfort," he said.
Despite the slender victory margin, Jayawardene was happy that his bowlers held their nerves and delivered the goods.
"It was a brilliant all-round effort. We bowled in the right areas," he said.
He was not happy with the batting of course and admitted feeling insecure with a total of 235.
"I threw away my wicket and I thought we were 15-20 runs short, but the bowlers came back strongly."
