Seniors can help in coping with absence of coach: Robin

India's fielding coach Robin Singh has said the team could bank on the experience of seasoned players to guide them in the absence of a full-time coach.
"We have experienced players like Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar who will provide help, especially with the batting, but whatever we have we want to make the most of it," the former India player said after the team's 9-wicket win over Ireland at Stormont ground on Saturday.
"It was the same in Bangladesh last month (when former captain Ravi Shastri was the interim Cricket Manager) and we did very well.
"We've planned pretty well. There is a good team and we have decided what we want to work on."
India have appointed former captain Chandu Borde as Cricket Manager for the tour of UK after South African Graham Ford turned his back on their offer to take over as coach earlier this month.
Robin, who played in 136 ODIs, praised the team's fielding performance.
"We did a lot of work in Bangalore on the fitness. The fitter the guys, the better they will field," he said.
"These conditions were pretty cold but we fielded well in patches. Some didn't do so well, but overall some very good catches were taken.
"We have ensured we have worked on the fielding because it's a crucial area in one-day cricket.
"I think you'll see an improvement especially with the younger guys in the side.
"As long as the senior guys keep themselves fit they know what to do, but the emphasis is on the younger guys." |
