Warm-up match score counts for nothing in Tests: Strauss

England's Andrew Strauss believes neither himself nor Sachin Tendulkar could take for granted the good form they showed in the warm-up game going into the three-Test series.
Strauss said a batsman should not be lulled into over-confidence with one good knock in a lead-up match and need to put in the hard work all over again in the series proper.
"Sometimes when you've had a very big score - like Sachin's had - it's easy to settle back and think you have already got a hundred, so that's the danger of being in good form," Strauss said after leading England Lions to a draw against the Indians in the three-day match in Chelmsford on Sunday.
"I would prefer to be in form rather than out of form. It's always good going into a Test being in reasonably good nick, there's no doubt about that.
"But what you got prior to a Test match counts for little when you face the first ball in the Test. It's about reapplying yourself and doing the hard work again."
Having been short of runs in the Test series against the West Indies, Strauss was pleased to get some runs after having failed in the first innings.
The England opener, who top scored with 80 in the second innings, said the knock has helped him gauge the tourists' tactics ahead of the first Test starting on Thursday at Lord's. |
