Pakistan batsman Misbah-ul-Haq on Thursday said scoring runs against India had boosted his confidence and he was keen to repeat the success against other teams as well.

The 33-year-old, who made a late entry into international cricket, excelled in India with back-to-back hundreds in the last two drawn Tests proving himself to be a worthy successor to former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq in the middle order.

Indian captain Anil Kumble also described Misbah's performance as outstanding and a great find for Pakistan.

"It is nice to get such complimentary remarks but I want to remain with my feet on the ground. I was always confident of doing well against India. The experience of playing in the Twenty20 World Cup prepared me for this tough tour," Misbah said.

The batsman said he had broken the mental barrier of not being able to build on good starts.

"It was a big challenge playing in India against some good bowlers. But it allowed me to learn a lot about how to play according to the situation and with patience. I am hopeful I can repeat this performance against other teams, including Australia as well."

Australia tours Pakistan in March-April for three Tests and five one-day internationals.

Misbah said he batted better in India than ever before in his life.

"It was a big test for me and I am thankful I came through."

Misbah's name was also bandied about as a possible captain in India when Shoaib Malik was injured and Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf had problems with the team management in the last two Tests. Some former players are also rooting for him to be the Test captain in future.

But Misbah said no one had spoken to him about becoming captain neither did he harbour any immediate ambitions.

"I just think that Shoaib Malik is a young captain and requires some time to settle down and start delivering. Everyone needs to be patient with him. Give him some time, as you can't get overnight results. India can be a tough tour for even the more experienced captains," he pointed out.
