Bowling in slog overs a worry: Sangakkara

Sri Lanka may have managed two points from their abandoned match against India in Brisbane but vice-captain Kumar Sangakkara admitted bowling in the slog overs remained a worry for the side.
India were 162/4 after 40 overs but Gautam Gambhir (102 not out) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (88 not out) provide a late charge to swell the tally and the side milked 105 runs off the final 10 overs.
Sangakkara admitted his side needed to do a bit of rethinking on how to bowl in the slog overs.
"We have something to work on to keep the scores less in the last 10 overs," he said.
Sangakkara also claimed that the winning target of 268 was not out of the reach.
"It was a bit disappointing as it would have been a good score to chase. We were very confident about it when we went in. Two games in a row, the rain has been a spoiler," he said.
"It would have been a good chase, 260 was very gettable," he said. "It's a good track and a fast outfield," said the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman.
All praise for Gambhir, Sangakkara said, "He batted very well and once he got through the initial period, he settled himself to bat through the overs. That's what most sides expect of their batters.
"It was a very good knock and he will probably take a lot of confidence from it," Sangakkara said after the match. |
