All forms of the game can be accommodated: Pollock

Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock firmly believes that all three forms of the game -- Tests, One-day Internationals and Twenty20 -- can co-exist to entertain the cricket fans of the world.
He also maintained that the five-day game will always remain the ultimate test of the cricketing skills of a player.
"The traditional Test cricket and the 50-over game need to be preserved. I don't think international cricket will change (with the advent of Twenty20 cricket). All forms of the game can be accommodated," said the retired all-rounder who is among the handful of cricketers to have completed the double of 3,000 runs and 300 wickets in Tests.
"Test cricket has been in existence for many, many years and is the true test of your cricketing skills. I am not saying it's the most exciting form of cricket but it's the truest form of cricket," he said.
He brushed aside reports from Australia that after a survey it was found that 47 per cent of their cricketers would swap international cricket with the multi-million dollar Indian Premier Twenty20 league.
Pollock spoke to the media, along with another former international captain Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka, at the Bandra-Kurla Complex of the Mumbai Cricket Association after taking part in the first full practice session of the Mumbai Indians outfit ahead of its opening match (on April 20 against Bangalore Royals) in the IPL.
Jayasuriya echoed his views and said "This is a bit new for players and spectators but it's a very good concept". |
