Gilly's innings blew us out of our socks: Pollock

Mumbai Indians captain Shaun Pollock Sunday refused to blame events of the last two days involving Harbhajan Singh for the hammering at the hands of Deccan Chargers and instead heaped praise on Adam Gilchrist for powering the Hyderabad franchise to a 10-wicket win in the Indian Premier League.

"I don't want to blame the happenings. Yes, we missed Sachin Tendulkar (because of injury) and Harbhajan Singh (suspended for slapping S Sreeshanth). But Gilly's innings blew us out of our socks. He was on fire," the retired South African all-rounder said after the tie at the D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Pollock felt the team's misfortunes for the day, when they slid to their fourth straight IPL defeat, started when they lost wickets quickly and could not recover.

"We lost two to three wickets quickly and could not recover. Then Gilly played that innings," he said referring to the former Australian wicketkeeper's blazing, unbeaten 109 in which he slammed 10 sixes and nine fours, completing his 100 in only 42 balls, the fastest in the tournament so far.

Pollock, however, felt the Mumbai Indians were still in the hunt and a victory under their belt would galvanise the team.

"We need a victory under the belt. Hopefully, the next one would be it. We are also hopeful that Sachin will be back. It's a long tournament and we're not out (of reckoning) yet," he said.
