We should have hosted the semi-final: Warne

Leg spin legend Shane Warne wants the top two teams at the end of the preliminary stage of the Indian Premier League to host semi-finals from next year while shooting down the idea of having two events in one season from 2011.

"We should have hosted the semi-final (against fourth finishers Delhi Daredevils) instead of playing it at a neutral venue (Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai). We have been the best team in the league so far, but have not gained any extra advantage," Rajasthan Royals' captain-cum-coach Warne told reporters in Mumbai ahead tomorrow's semi-final clash against Virender Sehwag led Delhi Daredevils.

"Playing at home would have given a big advantage for us. Most sides play better at home. These are some of the things that need to be improved by the IPL authorities next year, especially by allowing the top two sides to host the semi- finals," the tough-talking former Australian Test star said.

Warne also vehemently opposed plans announced by IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi of holding two editions of the Twenty20 league every season from 2011 and wanted international cricket to be protected from the new format's onslaught.

"I don't agree with two seasons of IPL. The beauty of this is it's a one-off thing in a year. The organisers of the IPL have a responsibility to world cricket as well.

"For me IPL should be held for only four weeks, starting in April and ending on May 1 which will enable cricketers from all the boards to take part in it and then leave at the end of it to play in international cricket," he declared.
