We must believe we can beat Sri Lanka: Ashraful

Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful, who scored a match winning hundred in the opening Asia Cup match against United Arab Emirates believes his team can topple Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
"It is good we have achieved our first target and now we must believe we can beat Sri Lanka. Our aim is to top this group in the tournament," Ashraful told a news conference after his side beat UAE by a comprehensive 96-run margin Tuesday.
Ashraful and UAE skipper Saqib Ali both noted that the weather conditions were not ideal for cricket.
"It was tough out there. The conditions were not ideal for cricket or batting. But I felt good to get a hundred for my team and bat out the innings," Ashraful said.
"If we continue putting in a team effort like this we can beat anyone."
Ashraful said he would not compare his 109 with the 100 he got against Australia four years back but added it felt good to get back into form.
"That innings came when we were chasing a total so it was special. This innings was about discipline and application."
Ali said his bowlers struggled because of the bad weather.
"It was hard work for the bowlers and I am just happy we put up a respectable show. We are not disappointed at losing because we are here to gain experience and show everyone we are an improving side," the UAE captain said. |
