Mahendra Dhoni had a 'reprieve' of a different kind when he was let off by the Ranchi city traffic police for flaunting dark glasses while driving.

The dashing stumper-batsman was cruising through a busy thoroughfare on Tuesday when he was intercepted by a traffic constable on duty.

"Dhoni rolled down the window shutter, and was courteous enough to admit his fault and offered to cough up the fine for violating the rules," traffic Inspector S. Ahmed said.

Dhoni, however, was spared from paying the penalty of Rs 90, Ahmed said.

The cricketer, when contacted, admitted that he was in fact stopped by the police, but refrained from revealing further information.

The incident took place a day after Dhoni returned home from the tour of South Africa.
