Australian leg-spin wizard Shane Keith Warne could retire after the 2006-07 Ashes series in Australia to spend more time with his family, Warne's brother and manager Jason said on Sunday.

"The Ashes in 2006-07 could be Shane's last series," Jason Warne said in an interview published in a local daily.

"He's mentioned that during talks we've had about when he might retire. He's still really enjoying Test match cricket but that is a date he's talked about. If he didn't have kids, he might play forever, but he misses them a lot these days."

Warne enters the Ashes series in England next month with a world-record 583 Test wickets, and could have 700 if he stayed on the same pace by the Australian series against England in 18 months.

A retirement in the 2006-07 series would enable Warne to play his last two Tests at his favourite Melbourne Cricket Ground, and a week later at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where he made his debut in January 1992 against India .

Jason said his brother could still possibly return to one-day cricket, a game he decided to quit to spend more time with his family.

That would happen at the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, immediately after the Ashes.

"If the World Cup is coming around and the side doesn't have a permanent leg-spinner he could make himself available," Jason said.
