NEWS India-South Africa ODI Series 2005>India rises to fourth spot in ICC ODI rankings 29th Nov 2005 23.02 IST By Agencies A 6-1 thrashing of Sri Lanka and a drawn series against South Africa has lifted India to fourth spot in the latest ICC one-day international rankings. The turnaround in India's one-day fortunes saw it gain three spots on the ODI championship table.
Although the tally is the same as that of Sri Lanka and England, India moved above both of them (and New Zealand) when ratings were recalculated to three decimal points. Teams in the top six positions on Aril 1, 2006 would automatically qualify for the second stage of the ICC Champions Trophy, to be held in India next year. The four teams below sixth spot would have to qualify through preliminary round competitions. However India, being the hosts, would automatically be in the second stage regardless of their position on the table. South Africa hold on to second spot, 18 points behind World Champions Australia. Pakistan is ranked third. In the individual rankings, Rahul Dravid is the only Indian batsman in the top 10 at number seven, a drop of one spot. Irfan Pathan is ranked eighth among ODI bowlers, a gain of two places. The top three spots among batsman continued to be occupied by Adam Gilchrist , Ricky Thomas Ponting and Graeme Smith respectively. Aussie pace spearhead Glenn Donald McGrath leads the bowling ratings ahead of compatriot Brett Lee . South African Shaun Pollock gains two spots to come third.
