NEWS ICC Champions Trophy 2006>Appeal tribunal member wants fresh dope tests for Shoaib, Asif 05th Dec 2006 22.24 IST By Agencies The PCB tribunal may have let Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif off the hook but a key member of the same panel has demanded fresh doping tests for the tainted pace duo. Earlier today, the tribunal in the 2:1 decision cleared Shoaib and Asif of doping offences and lifted the bans on them after the duo tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone. Dr. Zaheer, Vice President of the Asian Federation of Sports Medicine, also revealed that he didn't totally agree with the decision to exempt the players by the PCB Anti-Doping Appeals Tribunal (ADAT), chaired by Fakhruddin G Ebrahim. ''In my view, the entire proceedings prior to this Appellate Tribunal's cognizance of the issue should be set aside and the PCB should immediately conduct fresh tests on the two athletes completely in compliance with laid down procedures, including proper education of the athletes about the technical details of the notification, sampling, storage, documentation and result management procedures as specified under 'International Standard for Testing' and relevant WADA Code provisions...'' he said. Dr. Zaheer felt new samples should be tested again and the PCB Anti-Doping Commission should give fresh verdict on this issue.
