NEWS India-South Africa Series 2006>Tendulkar to take Ranji guard after six years 05th Jan 2007 23.21 IST By Agencies Sachin Tendulkar would be playing only his fourth first class tie in domestic cricket in six years when he turns out for Mumbai in their seventh and last Group B Elite Division Ranji Trophy encounter against arch-rivals Maharashtra at Nashik next week. Tendulkar, currently in South Africa, was today named in the 15-member Mumbai squad led by Amol Muzumdar for the crucial January 10-13 clash, which would decide whether they stay on course for their 37th Ranji crown. He had played two more domestic first class fixtures after that match, representing Mumbai in the Irani Cup clash against the Rest of India at Chennai in September 2003 and then West Zone in the Duleep Trophy against South Zone at Hyderabad in February 2005. Apart from these fixtures, the highest Test centurion has played only in the N K P Salve Challenger Trophy one-day tournament at the domestic level. The match against Maharashtra would also see Mumbai at near-full strength with the availability of Wasim Jaffer , Zaheer Khan and fit-again medium pacer Rajesh Verma, with the injured Avishkar Salvi a notable absentee.
