NEWS Gibbs cleared to play second Test against Pakistan17th Jan 2007 22.51 IST By Agencies The International Cricket Council today said South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs was eligible to play the second Test against Pakistan since the two-match ban on him for making racist remarks was suspended pending a decision on his appeal against it. The ICC said in a statement that it did not expect the process of hearing Gibbs' appeal to take place before the second Test, which is scheduled to start on Friday, and hence the batsman would be allowed to play as per the rules governing the ICC Code of Conduct hearings. "Pending resolution of the appeal, Gibbs is permitted to play in any match scheduled to commence prior to the announcement of the Appeals Commissioner's decision." The process for the appeal is that the ICC will now appoint an Appeals Commissioner to hear the matter. The Appeals Commissioner will be drawn from the list of ICC Code of Conduct Commissioners but will not come from either South Africa or Pakistan.
