Profile Born on October 30, 1962, Courtney Andrew Walsh started his test career soon after his 22nd birthday on a winning note on November 9, 1984 against Australia at Perth. West Indies won that match by an innings and 112 runs. Interestingly, in that match, Walsh did not get to bowl in the 1st innings. In the 2nd innings he bowled just 20 overs picking up the wickets of Graeme Malcolm Wood and Graham Neil Yallop. Just three years later in 1987, Walsh was named the Wisden cricketer of the year. He has now retired after playing 132 tests, with a record 519 wickets. That he has played in so many tests, as a fast bowler is proof of his amazing levels of confidence, determination, endurance and, last but not the least, fitness. It will require an extraordinary effort for any one to break his record. And if someone indeed manages to do so, he might, for all you know, simply drop dead!
