Sanath Jayasuriya is known for his attacking batting and he was the main player behind Sri Lnaka’s world cup win. Player of the tournament in the 1996 World Cup, he drew the attention of cricket fans all over the world with his flamboyant and aggressive opening assaults. He brings to the Lankan team an all round ability. He has a range of strokes and can give his side a very quick start. Coupled with his gentle but reliable left-arm orthodox bowling, and his outstanding ability at any position in the field. He took over the captaincy of Sri Lanka in 1999 after a poor showing in the 1999 World Cup. He now has the second highest individual score in one-dayers of 189.
