Profile
The stylish right hander from Hyderabad has been in and out of the Indian team ever since he made his debut chiefly because he has been unable to have a secure batting position. The 167 that he scored in the third Test against Australia at Sydney in January 2000 cemented his place in the Indian test side. Laxman is not a natural opening batsman and has had the job thrust upon him. Laxman has openly acknowledged that he owes a lot to ML Jaisimha and Mohammed Azharuddin. Laxman turned the 2001 Test series against the Australians on its head by a brilliant innings of 281 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
